SHUTTLE: From Arden use the dirt road on the right side of the river for the shuttle. Drive about 2 miles upstream to the first rapids for an easy put-in. Beginners should take out at the Arden Bridge. Intermediates can take out at Laurel Creek. Experts may proceed with caution and scout the falls. Take out at Teter Creek for a short roadside run. To reach the Cove Run take-out, turn right at Teter Creek and go out to the main highway, WV 92, and turn left. Take Cove Run Road “2” to the left, then a right, another right and then a left at the succeeding forks. The last part takes you down a very steep unimproved road to the river. Be sure you can recognize this point from the water. You will not find any rapids on the lower part until around the first of October. Peak drawdown is generally reached at the end of February. Then you’ll find another 1.8 miles of rapids dropping at 30 fpm. Afterwards you’d have to paddle another 2 miles of flat water across Tygart Lake to reach the first take-out: the Wildcat Hollow Boat Club on river left.
